What is a Mood Board for House Renovation? 🤔
A mood board for house renovation or home remodel, also known as an inspiration board, is a collage of images, colors, textures, and other design elements that represent the vision for your project. It’s a collection of images that evoke the mood you want to create, making it an essential part of the design process. Mood boards can be used to:
- Visualize ideas
- Communicate design concepts
- Explore different styles
- Stay on track throughout the creative process
Whether you’re designing a room, planning a brand, or working on a creative project, a mood board might include photos, color swatches, fabric samples, typography, and more.

Tools and Platforms for Creating Mood Boards 📱🖥️
I have to admit that personally, I do love some of the looks that come from creating them on Canva. And yes, it does make them easier to share with others. However, and for me this is a BIG however, it’s harder to get a real feel for how everything will come together. And items such as countertops, even paint colors may not show up as well and cleanly as if you use the a physical board system or the binder system that we talk about in our Modern Home Renovation & Remodel program.
That being said, I realize that this is the virtual world and we want to make sure to provide you with guidance that works for YOU. So here goes –
- Pros: Easy to use, vast library of images.
- How to Use: Create a new board, pin images, and organize them to reflect your vision.
Canva
- Pros: User-friendly, great for beginners, offers free and pro versions.
- How to Use: Start with a collage template, add your images and text, customize colors and fonts.
Adobe Illustrator
- Pros: Professional-grade, highly customizable.
- How to Use: Create a new document, place images, add text and other design elements, export your mood board as a JPG or PDF.
Physical Boards
- Pros: Tactile, immersive, allows for a hands-on approach.
- How to Use: Gather your materials, arrange and pin them on a board, adjust as needed.
